WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN US?

After fourteen years of civil war, the Ebola epidemic in Liberia; and the recent  COVID 19 pandemic, the Liberian healthcare system has found itself under tremendous stress  in dealing with all the health related issues. No one government institution, organization or individual can find a lasting solution under these bombarding health challenges confronting  the country. This is why we are calling on you to join with us in tackling TB. Which according to WHO, is the number one contagious disease  in Liberia,

There are many health challenges in Liberia that need attention. Of the many health challenges in Liberia that needs attention, OFCET-Liberia focuses on the control and eradication of tuberculosis. With your help and the necessary tools and resources in place, we can make Liberia tuberculosis free.

Presently. Liberia is seeing an upward trend in TB cases according to current  Liberian  health Ministry reports for 2018, 2019 and 2020.  these numbers are only of those that were diagnosed as a result of a doctor visit or hospitalization. There could be more cases out there, since a lot of the population do not know the symptoms associated with the early stages of the infection. As result of the lack of awareness and testing and because many of the people have little or no access to hospitals or health centers in many parts of the country mainly in under serve communities, the numbers are truly not an accurate depiction.

Highlights on 3 years statistical data on Tuberculosis cases by Counties:

Montserrado County:  2018 = 5,243 cases;  2019 = 5,585 cases;  2020 = 4,169 cases

Between 2014 to 2018, while collaborating with some national and international NGOs,  We visited several health facilities in urban and rural Liberia.  After visiting and speaking to a lot of patients and healthcare administrators at Tuberculosis facilities, we got to see, and understand the rapid spreading of tuberculosis infection in Liberia. Especially in urban areas, mainly affecting women, children, in some cases babies, and that the disease has not received the kind of attention in terms of awareness, diagnosis and treatment as would be require thereby resulting in rapid increase in the number of cases in Liberia.

According to the World Health report, globally, tuberculosis is the second infectious killer after COVID-19.

In 2020 alone, 10 million fell ill of TB, 1.5 million people died of it.  Most of the deaths are in Sub Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.  Liberia is getting to see more TB incidence.  Join the effort to avoid TB burden in Liberia by controlling and eradicating it now.

We can not stand idly by while watching our people suffer and die from a disease for which treatment is available. Why should you get involved with our Program or Projects to Control and Eradicate TB in Liberia?

At OFCET we are of the conviction that the uptake in tuberculosis in post war - Ebola Liberia  is solvable and treatable.

The world is in an unpredictable place when it comes to new pandemic and epidemics,  if we failed to decisively act to bring a lasting solution to tuberculosis outbreaks, we could find ourselves in a compromising state to fight a newer epidemic or pandemic. Of late, we are still experiencing  the effect and impact of COVID 19.  We need your support for our projects and strategies for awareness, diagnosing and treating Tuberculous.

In 2019 as a result of COVID 19, we embarked on a project to locally produce PPE masks and have them distributed to staff and patients at facilities in Liberia. Thanks to our small contributors  who made this possible.

Now while we still focus on providing PPEs,  We invite you to contribute or Volunteer with us to provide training and education on Tuberculosis awareness, pertaining to Symptoms, spread, and prevention strategy;  including PPEs for  patients and undersupply TB facilities in Liberia.

Based on assessments, what is certain is a lack of education on the disease. We believe if locals are knowledgeable through awareness, the spread will be significantly controlled while we diagnose and treat the infected. Awareness and education of TB now is critical to halt the upward trend.
